Apply for housing

houses

The demand for housing assistance from the council far exceeds the supply of accommodation.

Thousands of households are seeking help with housing.

The supply of properties to let from the council and other social landlords (housing associations) in Brent is limited. It is only enough to meet the needs of a very small proportion of all applicants on the housing register.

Eligibility

In order to qualify for acceptance on the housing register applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • aged 16 or more*
  • not subject to immigration control, i.e. a citizen of the UK, the Commonwealth or the European Economic Area unless granted refugee status or granted leave to enter or remain in the UK

*If you are between the ages of 16 and 18 you will need to provide the council with a suitable guarantor before an offer of accommodation can be made. A guarantor is someone who will agree to pay your rent and other charges if you fail to do so.

If you have a history of anti-social or criminal behaviour relating to housing you cannot qualify to be on the housing register.

How to apply

Locata logoYou need to complete an online housing application form by going to www.locata.org.uk/onlineform.

After you have completed the form you will be given an indication of your likely priority for housing. If you are in band D then you are not likely to be offered social housing. If you are in band C then you are likely to face a wait of many years before you will be considered for an offer.

You will be given other options which may help you to improve your current housing position as an alternative to waiting for social housing.

If you need help then call or email us:

Once we have received your application form it will be processed and an acknowledgement letter will be sent to you informing you of the assessment outcome.

If you have been accepted onto our housing register you will become part of Locata which allows you to bid for available properties through the Locata scheme.
