Website accessibility

The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requires that goods and services are offered on equal terms to people with disabilities.

Brent Council is committed to providing its online services to all sections of the public. Our website is being designed to follow the accessibility guidelines issued by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB)

We are committed to making our website as accessible as possible. We aim to meet Web Accessibility standards (W3C AA) in all parts of the website. There is now a feedback link in every page for users to raise awareness of any issue with the page, including its lack of accessibility.

We are working with the Shaw Trust and the RNIB to ensure that we meet these accessibility standards.

Our access keys help users move around the key pages of this site without having to use a mouse or navigate from the content back to the header through an endless number of links. These are as follows,

  • 0 for Accessibility including Access keys
  • 1 for Home
  • 2 for Sitemap
  • 3 for Contact the council
  • 4 for Do it online
  • 5 for Help using this website
  • 6 for Maps
  • 7 for My Brent
  • 8 for Search
  • 9 for A to Z of council services

We advise users to refer to their browser settings as the combination of keys varies with different products and operating systems e.g. with Macintosh, press Ctrl key access key and with Microsoft Windows, Alt key access key in IE and Shift key, Alt key Access key in Mozilla Firefox.
