Term dates

School terms will usually run for twelve consecutive weeks. There are school holidays mid-term and at the end of term.

School year 2011-12

Term dates for the 2011-12 school year are as follows:

 Autumn 2011

• Term starts: Monday 5 September, 2011
• Half term: Monday 24 - Friday 28 October, 2011 
• Term ends: Friday 16 December, 2011 
• Number of days: 70

 Spring 2012

• Term starts: Tuesday 3 January, 2012 
• Half term: Monday 13 - Friday 17 February, 2012 
• Term ends: Friday 30 March, 2012
• Number of days: 59

 Summer 2012

• Term starts: Monday 16 April, 2012
• Half term: Monday 4 - Friday 8 June, 2012
• Term ends: Monday 23 July, 2012
• Number of days: 65

Exceptions 

Certain schools use their own term dates:

Occasional closure days
We have delegated to governing bodies the responsibility for determining the dates, following the advice of the headteacher, who will have consulted staff.

Local elections
Schools required to close for election purposes must use an occasional day.
