Air quality is influenced by factors such as location and weather. Healthy people are unlikely to suffer health effects of air pollution, but the young, elderly, or those with respiratory or heart problems are more acted.
We monitor air pollution across Brent, and when pollution rises to levels of concern, we issue free air quality alerts using the AirTEXT system.
The main cause of air pollution in Brent comes from vehicle emissions. Vehicles contribute more than 60 per cent of the two main pollutants associated with ill health - oxides of nitrogen and particulate matter.
Some areas in the borough have been identified as needing specific actions to limit air pollution, and these are called Air Quality Management Areas.
Where and what we monitor
We use monitoring stations to look at air quality in five Brent locations.
We publish the results from these stations on the London Air website
These stations monitor smoke, sulphur dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, particulates and benzene.

AirTEXT
AirTEXT is a free text message service that warns you about predicted poor air quality.
You can choose whether to receive your alerts the evening before or the morning of a day that is predicted as having high air pollution. As well as the alert, you will get basic health advice to help you decide what you should do.
Register for the service and you will be sent a welcome text and should start receiving messages the next working day.
